Qurban Sacrifice

Qurban 2020
Qurban means sacrifice. Every year during the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah, Muslims around the world slaughter an animal – a goat, sheep, cow or camel – to reflect the Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail, for the sake of Allah. It is the sacrifice of an animal on the occasion of a Eid al Adha. Meat from Qurbani animals should be distributed equally in three parts. It should be given to the family, friends and the poor.

Aqeeqah – General Sacrifice

Aqiqah or aqeeqah is a confirmed sunnah or Islamic tradition. It is the sacrifice of an animal on the occasion of a new born muslim child. The parent or guardian is required to sacrifice the animal on behalf of the newborn on the 7th, 14th or 21st day after the child’s birth. The Prophet(as) said “Every child is in pledge of his Aqiqah, so slaughter (the animal) for him, on the seventh day, shave his head and name him…” Ibn Majah 30:3165. The Olive Branch Australia sources quality aqiqah/aqeeqah from local farmers in poverty stricken areas around the world. This enables you to perform your obligations easily and affordably while you know you are feeding the most needy.

Water Sanitation & Hygiene

Water is the essence of life. Providing water is a continual charity (sadaqah jariyyah) that keeps on giving for generations over and over again. Sadly, 1 in 10 people in this world do not have access to clean water. The lives of almost 1 billion people will change significantly with clean water. Imagine being responsible for fertilising fields, quenching the thirst of people, washing, feeding animals, plants etc. The water and sanitation program is aiming to not only provide clean water but also help communities to access sanitation and support them in reducing risks of water borne diseases. Access to water is another challenge that we aim to tackle, as many communities have to walk for miles in order to fetch clean water, our interventions aim to provide far flung communities with access to clean water, this will also reduce time that children have to spend away from school as they collect water and can improve income for parents who will be able to spend more time cultivating the land to produce vegetables instead of spending hours each day in fetching water. We aim to work with local communities and support them to find the best possible sustainable solutions that are best adapted for their contexts. We’ve partnered with local organisations on the ground to build sustainable water projects such as these water wells. So not only are you building wells and providing water to many people but you are also creating jobs and employment. The cost for the water wells includes boring the holes, well-head, piping, filters, water quality testing, platform, plaque, transportation, labor, and documentation.

Health & Medical

Health provision towards healthy communities is our ultimate goal and we at The Olive Branch Foundation, work towards supporting local partners and medical facilities who will ensure that individuals, families and children have access to medical services. By providing adequate medical assistance, we will contribute towards long term development, as better health will help beneficiaries to improve their livelihood, for children to be more assertive in acquiring knowledge. We are also faced with different cultures, different understanding of medical care, which is a major factor in our mode of operation. We continuously engage with local actors who are close to the beneficiaries and able to provide medical assistance which contribute to a better public health.

Housing and Shelter

Shelter is a vital survival mechanism in times of crisis or displacement. It is also key to restoring personal security, self-sufficiency and dignity. In urban areas, many refugees share accommodation or live in non-functional public buildings, collective centres, slums and informal types of settlements. Conditions are often substandard and providing shelter poses major challenges. In rural settings, delivering protection and humanitarian assistance through refugee camps is common. More than 6.6 million refugees and people in refuge-like situations live in camps, among them 4.6 million in planned/managed camps and about 2 millions in self-settled camps. While camps can be practical, particularly during emergencies, encampment results in a range of problems, including aid dependency and isolation.
